Silph Co. is the large building at the center of Saffron City. It’s the headquarters of Silph Corporation, makers of items such as the Poke Ball and Silph Scope. For that reason, Team Rocket has taken it over. After chasing them out of their hideout in Celadon City and Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town, you’ll be able to enter Silph Co.
Blue circle pads with red X markers are laid throughout the building. These are warp pad. Step on one and you’ll be transported to a matching warp pad somewhere in the building.
1st Floor – Lobby
Enter the lobby to meet the Silph Co receptionist. She will tell you, your Rival, and Blue that Team Rocket has taken over the entire building. Before they will allow you to go forward, you must defeat Blue in a Pokemon battle.
Defeat Blue to receive P11,200. After the battle, search the southern part of the lobby near the fountain to discover an X Sp. Atk. The stairs to the next floor are at the northeast corner of the lobby. Instead of taking the stairs, use the elevator to skip to the fifth floor.
It’s best to go to the Fifth Floor before all others so you can find the Key Card. The Key Card will allow you to unlock all doors in Silph Co. The first Trainer of this floor is a Juggler. He can be found between the stairs and elevator.
To the west are two members of Team Rocket, including the Admin, Archer! As you approach them, your Rival will run in and even things out with a multi-battle.
The Grunt will only have two Pokemon, but Archer will use three. It’s best to focus on the Grunt’s Pokemon first since they’re weak at the start of battle but will become troublesome if not taken care of. Also, with the Grunt’s two Pokemon out of the way, both you and your Rival can focus on the Team Rocket Admin. Archer mainly uses special attacks as you can see below. Electrode is the only one that should be problematic, as his self-destruct can take out most Pokemon that aren’t rock-types with high defenses.
Defeat the two to receive P4,652. After they run off, your Rival will find the Card Key. This allows you to open up all doors throughout Silph Co! Before taking the lift back down to the second floor, finish exploring this area.
Use the Card Key to open up the small room to the west. A Trainer will be waiting inside near a Max Ether.
Defeat the Grunt to receive P924. Investigate the offices in the center of the floor next. You’ll find a Guard Spec. in the server room to the left. That will take care of this floor. Head back down to the second floor and work your way back up.
Walk south of the staircase and elevator into the offices of the second floor. A Grunt will challenge you to a battle as you step foot inside.
Defeat the scientist to receive P2,100. Directly to the north is a Max Lure.
The warp pads in this office on the third floor are very important. The one in the first office (next to the scientist) will lead you directly to your Rival, which then takes you to the boss of Team Rocket. The second warp pad to the west will take you to the ninth floor where you can heal your entire team. Your team has probably taken a beating by now. You can warp to the ninth floor right now using this tile.
After reaching the ninth floor via warp pad, walk west and battle another member of Team Rocket.
Defeat the Grunt to receive P924. Use the key card to open the door nearby. The Nurse by the beds will heal your team completely for free.
Investigate the beds to the east of the nurse to discover a hidden Elixir. A Revive can also be found between the beds to the southwest.
Exit out the door to the east. One of the four Rocket Sisters will be waiting for you here. Originally, there were four rocket brothers in Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow, but for some reason they changed it to Rocket Sisters.
Defeat the scientist to receive P2,100. Search the nearby shelves for 3 Ultra Balls, 3 Great Balls, and 3 Poke Balls. That will clear the ninth floor. You can take the elevator back down to the fourth floor if you wish to work your way back up. It’s best to battle everyone to earn a lot of money, and search each floor to collect all items.
A member of Team Rocket is located inside the office to the southeast. Speak with him to start a Pokemon battle.
Defeat the Grunt to receive P924. A small group of people are being held hostage in the room to the south. Save your game and enter the office.
Speak to the man on the right to obtain a very rare species of Pokemon called Lapras. It will have really great stats, but the nature will be random. Reset the game to get a nature that boosts special defense or even special attack. Lapras doesn’t need speed or attack to be boosted. A Rare Candy can also be found in this room.
Walk to the far southwest corner of the floor next. A scientist Trainer will challenge you to a Pokemon battle.
Defeat the Grunt to receive P924. There’s only one more Rocket Sister left! Walk to the south side of the floor to find the doors to the offices. Inside the office to the east is an X Attack near the bookshelves.
Investigate the offices on the west and you’ll be stopped by a member of Team Rocket.
Defeat the scientist to receive P2,100. Pick up the Revive in the back of the room to clear the eight floor. The ninth floor should have been cleared earlier, but you can always return to heal your team. When ready, head up to the tenth floor.
Enter the small offices on the east side of the floor. A scientist will meet you near the door and challenge you to a Pokemon battle.
Defeat the Grunt to receive P924. Walk over to the storage room in the south. Inside is a Max Revive, Rare Candy, and most importantly TM37 Flamethrower. This is one of the best fire-type attacks in the game. That will clear the tenth floor, which leaves one more to go!
If you enter the eleventh floor from the staircase or elevator, you can battle a member of Team Rocket to the east.
Defeat the Grunt to receive P924. Follow the path to the southeast and pick up the Max Elixir near the dead end.
To get to the boss of Team Rocket, return to the third floor and take the warp pad in the west office, then take the next warp pad past your Rival. You’ll be stopped by Team Rocket as you get closer to the president’s office.
Defeat Team Rocket to receive P3,456. There’s only one battle to go. Make sure your team is fully healed and ready to fight. Remember, you can return to the third floor via warp pad and take the next warp pad back up to the ninth floor. When you’re ready to fight, enter the office on the eleventh floor.
Giovanni’s Pokemon are very tough and very durable Pokemon. They will use powerful physical attacks of various types, and their defenses will allow them to withstand enough physical damage to hit back.
A lot of damage can be done to Persian with a fighting-type attack, but Persian can move fast and hit hard with Play Rough, a fairy-type attack that will deal 2x damage to fighting-type Pokemon. Try using a fighting-type attack from a non-fighting-type Pokemon, or use Pokemon with high enough defenses to withstand Persian’s attacks.
When facing Rhyhorn and Nidoqueen, the easiest option is to use special water-type attacks. Grass-type attacks work well against Rhyhorn as well, but they could run into trouble with Rhyhorn’s Megahorn if a grass-type Pokemon is using them.
Defeat Giovanni to receive P6,240. After the battle, speak with the President of Silph Co. For helping the company and all its employees, he will reward you with the Master Ball. This ball will catch any Pokemon 100% of the time. There’s only one in the game, so it’s best to save it for a special occasion.
Return to the Pokemon Center in Saffron City to heal your team and save your game. Right outside the Pokemon Center is an executive of Silph Co with his Porygon. Speak with him to obtain that same Porygon for free! Like other gift Pokemon, the Porygon will have great stats but a random nature.
Next, head to the far northeast side of Saffron City near the Gym. Speak with Officer Jenny to receive the Police Set for defeating Team Rocket! These are new sets of clothes for you and your partner Pokemon. You can now challenge the Saffron City Gym or go south to Fuchsia City. The path to Fuchsia must be taken west of Celadon via Pokemon Road or south of Lavender through Route 12-15.
