Route 22 is a short grassy area west of Viridian City. It leads to the Pokemon League headquarters, but a guard will be blocking the path to victory road. Walk around the area and capture a few new Pokemon.
Walk along the road to the north to meet up with your Rival yet again. He’ll challenge you to another Pokemon battle. If you’ve been capturing Pokemon, you should have no issues. If you lose to him, you will run back to the Pokemon Center to heal your team. Return to Route 22 to challenge him again.

When you’re ready to continue, return to Viridian City in the east and go north to Route 2 and the Viridian Forest. The next town is further north past the forest.
