Call of the Dead

The following are maps of the entire Call of the Dead map. This map is a bit different from the past ones. The red dots are fog horns, the really light gray areas are icy water, the arrows mean one way only, everything else should be the same. mid gray are walking areas, dark gray are non accessible areas, squiggly lines are rebuild-able barriers etc. Follow one letter to the same letter to find your way through the map. A to A, B to B, etc.

Call of the Dead is the first Zombie Map since the Nacht Der Untoten which does not follow the Zombie story set by the others through easter eggs. This time you play as one of four actual actors who have been in some type of horror movie throughout their career. They are:

  • Danny Trejo
  • Sarah Michelle Gellar
  • Robert Englund
  • Michael Rooker

Call of the Dead takes place on an abandoned ship wreck near a lighthouse in the arctic, more specifically Siberia. The starting point has a few frozen over areas, but it’s mainly a pool of frozen water. Don’t stay in the water too long or your screen and character will freeze up. It takes roughly 20 seconds to completely freeze over, zombies can freeze in the water too. Once frozen, you will be susceptible to attacks from Zombies or George Romero. There are other areas on the map that have icy water.

George Romero is a special enemy from the start of the match. He wields a light on a stick which he uses like an electrified hammer. I’m sure you heard about him by now. If you shoot him or get too close to him, he goes crazy and runs at you with his hammer-like weapon. The hammer-like weapon can down you if it hits you a few times, but it can also slow you down if it hits near you, because of the electricity. The electricity acts like the electricity in the Wunderwaffe. If zombies are around when he smashes the hammer-like weapon on the ground, they will become electrified and rush at full speed. If you melee the zombies that are electrified, they will shock you. If he goes crazy, lead him to some icy water. The icy water will calm him down and make him move slower.

It is possible to kill George Romero, but it takes a massive amount of damage to do it. Use all the Pack-A-Punch weapons you can. If you kill him, he will drop a death machine power up and perk-a-cola power up. If you complete the easter egg with the original cast, he will also drop a lightning bolt which gives you a wunderwaffe. You can get rid of George for a bit without killing him, too. All you have to do is shoot him two or three times with a Pack-A-Punched V-R11 while he’s in the icy water in the main area. He will disappear for a round or two. If you make him disappear without killing him, he will not drop anything, nor will you earn an achievement.

With the exception of George Romero, there are only Zombies in Call of the Dead. No Hell Hounds, Space Monkeys, or Creepy Crawlers can be found. They will come through barriers on the map like usual, but that is not the only way any more. You can find zombies popping out of the ground, out of the roof in caves, and jumping out of the ice water onto the ship wreck.

The objective of this map is to get to the ship wreck and turn on the power while searching for information leading to the original Zombie Characters. You can hear the original Zombie characters somewhere in the map saying, “Let us out!” Teleporting them gives you an achievement and progresses the zombie story. The power turns on a few Perk-A-Cola machines and the lighthouse. A few lights are around the map, but are only needed when the weather gets bad. The weather will change after a couple of minutes. The game will go from being dark and snowy to clear.

The Mystery Box randomly spawns in one of a couple set locations. After a few turns with the box, it will spawn in a new location. You can look up in the sky to see the blue light and location of the box. You may need to wait until the weather turns dark.

The Pack-A-Punch is on this map, but it’s a bit hard to get to. The Pack-A-Punch machine will randomly appear in rocks around the map. Wait for lighting and the lighthouse to shine it’s light on one of four rocks. You can find the locations of the rocks in the maps on this page. The Pack-A-Punch machine will only be available for a short time before it sinks into the water and the rock comes back up.

There are a few new items added to Call of Duty’s Zombies. The first notable feature are map additions. Just like Teleporters and elevators, new contraptions have been placed on this map to speed up travel. One is a sort of zipline. You can find a giant rope that runs from the top of the lighthouse to the back end of the ship, and a rope that extends from the ship to the shore. All you need to do is jump onto the rope to slide down. The other contraption is a sort of catapult located on the second floor of the ship. Both playable characters and zombies can use the catapult and ziplines. The power must be turned on to use them.

The second add on is the Perk-A-Cola machine “Deadshot Daiquiri.” This perk gives you a few new abilities. The first is smaller crosshairs, similar to steady aim. You are also given auto aim which locks onto enemies in your line of sight when you aim, similar to the auto aim in the campaign. The last ability is no sway what so ever when using sniper rifles.

Two new weapons are added to the mystery box in Call of the Dead. The first is the “Scavenger” Rifle. The Scavenger is a bolt action sniper rifle which fires explosive rounds. The explosive rounds will stick to any surface and explode on a delay, similar to the crossbow. The second weapon is the “V-R11.” The V-R11 fires green energy, similar to the ray gun. It has the ability to turn a zombie back into a human. The human will then run off and be chased by zombies, similar to the monkey bomb or pack-a-punched crossbow.

Just like all other zombie maps, there is a musical easter egg. Find all three meteors set throughout the map to activate the song “Not Ready To Die” by Avenged Sevenfold.

The Escalation Map Pack offers 5 new Achievements worth 150G for the 360 version. The PS3 version contains 5 trophies, 1 silver and 4 bronze.

Stand-in (35G/Bronze)
In Call of the Dead, send the crew to Paradise in solo or co-op.
This is a really long achievement to get. You must turn on the power and head to the building next to the lighthouse. Inside is a metal door. Stand close enough to hear the old group of zombies talk. They will say they’re trapped and you need to help them. Grab a fuse on the floor above the door, somewhere around the PhD Flopper, and place it in a panel to the right of the door. A few generators with red lights will activate next to you and around the map. Blow up all four and return to the door. Next you need to go to the ship where you turn on the power. Move the wheel two turns clockwise, then look for three levers to the right. Pull the first lever once and the third lever three times. After that, you’ll need the V-R11. Shoot a zombie to turn it into a human and follow it to the green light in the light house. Kill it before it reaches the top of the green light and retrieve the gold handle at the bottom. Return to the door and place the handle into the tube on the left side of the door. Wait for a bit of dialogue, then melee the fuse to end the easter egg.

Ensemble Cast (45G/Silver)
In Call of the Dead, send the crew to Paradise in co-op.
This is a really long achievement/trophy which requires at least two people. Some of the parts are similar to Stand-In, but there are a few extra steps.

Stuntman (20G/Bronze)
In Call of the Dead, make a zombie explode using the V-R11.
The V-R11 is a new weapon exclusive to Call of the Dead. You can only get it from the Mystery Box. You will then need to upgrade it with the Pack-A-Punch machine. Fire at a zombie to turn him into a human, then fire at him once more to make him explode.

Shooting on Location (20G/Bronze)
In Call of the Dead, kill 10 zombies with one Scavenger shot from over 100 feet away.
The Scavenger is a new weapon exclusive to Call of the Dead. You can only get it from the Mystery Box. Get it and kill 10 zombies with one shot from long distance. The rounds explode, so it shouldn’t be too hard. You may need to do it at a later round when more zombies group together.

Quiet on the Set (30G/Bronze)
In Call of the Dead, cut the lights on the Director.
You have to kill George Romero to unlock this achievement. Upgrade any weapon you can and fire at him with all you have. Make sure you do this in icy water. He will go under the water and the achievement will unlock.
