Viridian Forest is a very small area within Route 2. You’ll come across a few trainers as you travel through, so make sure your team is in top condition after each battle. You can always run back to the Pokemon Center in Viridian City to heal your team for free, but it’s easier to buy some Potions and Antidotes to bring along. Also, make sure you have some Poke Balls to capture a few Pokemon in the area. Getting a Caterpie here and evolving it to Butterfree is a great option for the upcoming gym battle.

Walk north to a dead end. Interact with the Poke Ball shaped item to obtain a Poke Ball! All the items in the game will be shaped like Poke Balls, but they won’t all be Poke Balls.

Return to the entrance and go east and north. Two more Pokemon trainers can be found along the east.

Continue to the north until you come across another item. If you’re playing Pokemon Red and Blue, it will be an Antidote.

Continue west until you see a sign post. Before going on, follow a short path to the southeast to a dead end with a Potion.

The exit is to the northwest. You’ll find one more Pokemon trainer here. Before stepping in front of him, press A to find a hidden Potion. Now step in front of the trainer to battle. Again, the trainer’s Pokemon will vary depending on the version.

After the battle, go north to return to Route 2. There won’t be anything there other than a patch of tall grass. Continue on to Pewter City.
