Pokemon Red and Blue Walkthrough

S.S. Anne

The S.S. Anne is a luxury ship found at the docks of Vermilion City. You can enter the ship if you have a ticket, which can be found at Bill’s Seaside Cottage at Route 25. Make sure you have the item in your bag or you won’t be able to board the ship. There are a large number of trainers and items throughout the ship.

First Floor

The first floor of the ship has six rooms and three paths to three different parts of the ship. The stairs to the southeast will lead to the basement, the stairs to the west will lead to the second floor, and the door to the southwest will lead to the kitchen.

The first room (from right to left) contains a single Pokemon Trainer.

The second room contains another Pokemon Trainer.

The next two rooms have nothing of interest. The fifth room (again, from right to left) contains two Pokemon Trainers standing next to TM08 – Body Slam.

The third girl will not challenge you to a Pokemon battle. The last room has nothing of interest. That should take care of the first floor. Remember, the stairs to the southeast will lead to the basement, the stairs to the west will lead to the second floor, and the door to the southwest will lead to the kitchen.

Kitchen

The Kitchen only has one thing of value. Investigate the trash cans to find a Great Ball. With that in your pocket, head back to the first floor and take the southeast staircase to the basement.

Basement

There are five different rooms on this floor. The first floor, from right to the left, contains a Max Potion. Don’t worry, you won’t battle anyone here.

The second room has two sailor Pokemon Trainers. The one on the right is listed below first.

With that taken care of, return to the first floor. Take the staircase at the northwest corner to reach the second floor, but before entering all the rooms on the second floor, take the staircase directly to the south and follow the hall out to the deck of the ship. You can find a few more trainers out here.

Deck

There are only two trainers out there. The first one is right near the door. The second is a few steps to the left.

Second Floor

The second floor has six more rooms, some with trainer and items, some without. Speak to the man in the first room to add Snorlax to your Pokedex. You’ll see two more later, so you can skip this guy and it won’t matter.

The second room has two trainers standing near a Max Ether.

This will clear the floor of normal trainers. Heal your team up and head to the far east side of this floor, but be prepared for a tough battle. Well, tough compared to the others.

Rival Battle

Your rival is back and ready for another battle. Remember, his final Pokemon will depend on the Pokemon you chose from Professor Oak. Honestly, this battle shouldn’t be as bad as the one in Cerulean if you’ve leveled up your Pokemon by battling all the trainers along the way.

After defeating your rival, speak to the captain of the S.S. Anne in the room up ahead. After consoling him, he’ll give you HM01 – Cut. This is the first Hidden Machine of the game. You will need to teach it to a Pokemon to cut down bushes throughout Kanto. Choose wisely, you won’t be able to forget an HM once it’s learned! You can always give it to a spare Pokemon you don’t use very often.

Now that you have Cut, you can challenge the Vermilion City Gym. If you don’t think you’re ready, train up a bit at Route 11 to the east of Vermilion. You can also find great ground-type Pokemon in Diglett Cave right before Route 11. Remember, ground-type Pokemon are immune to electric-type attacks!
