Achievements and Trophies

This section is for the Silent Silent Hill 2 HD Collection Achievements and Trophies. For the Xbox 360 version, Silent Hill HD Collection has one long list of Achievements adding up to 1000 Gamerscore. For the Playstation 3 version, Silent Hill HD Collection is split up into two lists for each of the two games. Both lists have their own Platinum trophy for completing all other trophies for that game.

Childhood Trauma

Defeat Abstract Daddy.

Abstract Daddy is a strong monster you’ll face after navigating through The Labyrinth. You’ll face him in a very small room with no where to go. If he gets close, you can try to run to the other side of the small room. Although, that’ll only be about five steps. Use the Hunting Rifle or Shotgun to make quick work of him.

Abstract Daddy will only have one attack. He’ll reach up towards your head and start doing damage — almost like a hug from a four legged creature. When he does this, press the investigate and run buttons to get out quickly and run to the other side of the room.

Don't Keep Her Waiting

Complete Boat Stage in less than 1 min and 20 seconds.

After navigating through The Labyrinth, you’ll need to cross Toluca Lake in a row boat to reach the Lake View Hotel.

This is quite easy to accomplish. Just as with the run/walk mechanic, holding down the “run” button will make the boat move faster. Point the front of the boat (James’ back) towards the light, and row to shore. However, on the Hard Difficulty, you will need to use both sticks to mimic a rowing motion.

Fountain of Youth

Acquire the White Chrism.

The White Chrism is one of four items you need to unlock the Rebirth ending. Finding the item will unlock the Fountain of Youth achievement / trophy.

The White Chrism is found in the kitchen of apartment #105 in the Blue Creek (West) Apartments. You can only find it after beating the game once and starting a new game.

Fountain of Youth

Acquire the White Chrism.

The White Chrism is one of four items you need to unlock the Rebirth ending. Finding the item will unlock the Fountain of Youth achievement / trophy.

The White Chrism is found in the kitchen of apartment #105 in the Blue Creek (West) Apartments. You can only find it after beating the game once and starting a new game.

Free to Go

Unlock the “Leave” Ending.

Leave will be the first ending you unlock in Silent Hill 2.

Goodbye

Unlock the “In Water” ending.

In order to get the In Water ending there are a number of things you must do:

  • Once you have Angela’s knife, make sure you examine it in your inventory at least once.
  • You have to read the diary on the roof of the hospital.
  • You have to listen to the audio recording in the hotel.
  • In the hallway right before the final boss fight, make sure you hang around to hear the whole conversation.
  • Throughout the game, do not heal yourself immediately if injured. Spend as much time at low health as you feel comfortable with.

Follow these rules and you should manage to get this ending.

Hard to Hit

Receive less than 500 points of damage in one game, in SH2.

This can easily be done on a second play through. Increase the bullet count to x3 to make every box of bullets have three times as much as usual. Setting the difficulty to easy will help out quite a bit too. Use bullets to take down enemies, then kick them once to finish them off.

Remember, you do not have to fight every monster you see.

I Don't Need You Anymore

Defeat Pyramid Head.

Pyramid Head will be the second to last Boss in Silent Hill 2. While in the Other World version of the Lake View Hotel, you’ll face two Pyramid Heads with spears.

The spears move much faster than the Great Knife, and they still cause a massive amount of damage. Just like the first encounter, run from corner to corner and attack with a firearm. Keep your distance because the spears can reach out pretty far. The Hunting Rifle is probably the best choice to defeat the Pyramid Heads. Shoot off two shots if they’re far enough, one if they’re close. Only reload your weapon from the menu, they will move too fast and get to you before you finish.

If you have a ton of ammo stored up, you can, and probably should, use it now. There is still one more boss battle after this one, but it won’t need as much ammunition.

Alternate Method: Like the first battle, you can finish this fight based on time alone, but it will take a long time. Run around from corner to corner for about 10 minutes and the Pyramid Heads will retreat to the middle of the room. This is a really long time to run around, so using weapons may be much quicker and more fun.

Once you have caused enough damage, or the time has elapsed, they will give up and impale themselves in the middle of the room.

I.Q. Test

Complete SH2 on Extra Riddle difficulty.

In order to unlock Extra Riddle difficulty in Silent Hill 2, you must complete the game on each of the three Riddle Difficulties. So, obviously, you will need to beat the game at least three times before going for this achievement / trophy.

It All Makes Sense Now

Unlock the “Dog” ending.

To unlock the Dog Ending, you must do a few steps.

In game, you must collect the Dog Key and use it to unlock the Observation Room in the Lakeview Hotel.

In order to get the Dog Key, you must either unlock each of the three “normal” endings:

In Water
Leave
Maria
Or by unlocking the Rebirth ending.

Keen Eye

Find 150 items + extra items in SH2.

There will be many items hidden throughout Silent Hill. Don’t be afraid to search up and down the street when on your way to the next objective. You can obtain this achievement / trophy before you get to the Silent Hill Historical Society.

Keep Your Distance

Defeat at least 75 enemies by shooting in SH2.

This achievement / trophy will be a lot harder than most think. You cannot drop an enemy with a firearm and kill it with a kick. If you do, that will count as a kill by fighting. Instead, you have to shoot it while it’s down until it finally dies. You can save ammo by injuring it with a melee weapon, then finishing it off with a firearm.

Search through the streets of Silent Hill to find tons of ammunition.

Light Reading

Acquire the Book of Crimson Ceremony.

The Book of Crimson Ceremony is one of four items needed to unlock the Rebirth ending. Obtaining it will unlock the Light Reading achievement / trophy.

This item can only be found after beating Silent Hill 2 at least once and starting a new game. It is found in the second floor Reading Room of the Other World version of the Lake View Hotel.

Man's Best Friend

Acquire the Dog Key.

The Dog Key is a special item needed to unlock the Dog Ending in Silent Hill 2. Finding the item will unlock the Man’s Best Friend achievement / trophy.

The Dog Key is found in a doghouse directly West of Jack’s Inn after you leave Rosewater Park. It will only be available after you have either unlocked the three “standard” endings (Leave, In Water, Maria), or after getting the Rebirth ending. It is used to unlock the Observation Room in the Lake View Hotel for the Dog Ending.

Melee Master

Defeat at least 75 enemies by fighting in SH2.

This is a much easier achievement / trophy than one would think. You can shoot an enemy until it falls on the ground, then kick it once or twice to kill it off. That kick will count as a kill by fighting.

Never to be Heard from Again

Unlock the “UFO” ending.

In order to unlock the UFO ending, you must first obtain the Blue Gem. Once you have it you must use it in three specific locations:

  1. In the garden of Brookhaven Hospital immediately following the Flesh Lips boss fight.
  2. Next to the rowboat on the Toluca Lake dock BEFORE you enter it.
  3. Next to the window in room #312 of the Lakeview Hotel. You must do this BEFORE watching the Videotape.

Not So Lost Memories

Acquire the Book of Lost Memories.

The Book of Lost Memories is one of four items needed to unlock the Rebirth Ending. Obtaining it will unlock the Not So Lost Memories achievement / trophy.

This item can only be found after completing the game once and starting a new game. It is located on a newspaper stand next to the building near the pumps at the Texxon Gas Station. The camera will shift to focus on it when you get close.

Overkill

Acquire the Chainsaw.

The Chainsaw can be found in a stack of logs during Outskirts of Silent Hill. In order to find it, you’ll need to complete a game of Silent Hill 2 first.

This weapon is also on the slower side and requires James to start it before he can attack with it. Being attacked will shut it off.

Playing on the Edge

Complete SH2 with 2 saves or less.

Pick up as many health items as you can, but only use them when necessary. Keep on eye on your health and only save before extremely tough boss fights. Changing the difficulty to Easy and the bullet multiplier to x3 will help out a lot, too.

Restless Dreams

Unlock the “Born from a Wish” ending.

Born From a Wish is the Sub Scenario in Silent Hill 2. It’s the short prequel to the main game, revolving around Maria. Beat this Sub Scenario to unlock this ending.

Say Goodbye

Defeat Mary.

Mary is the final boss battle in Silent Hill 2. You’ll find her at the end of the Other World version of the Lake View Hotel.

Being the final boss, Mary is the toughest, but not exactly the strongest. She can take a ton of damage, so lay into her with all the firearms you have.

Mary only has two attacks. Both attacks require you to press the run and investigate button to escape.

The first attack will send a cloud of bats at you. While the bats are flying around you, you won’t be able to do anything until they fly away. You can try to run away, but they’ll eventually come back for more.

The second attack will be done from Mary directly. She will float above you and lift you up with a tentacle, draining more of your health than the bats.

Deal enough damage to Mary and she’ll fall to the ground. Stand over her and finish her off.

Say Your Prayers

Unlock the “Rebirth” ending.

Make note, this ending can only be seen after completing the game once.

To see this ending you must complete the game with four specific items in your inventory.

  • The White Chrism is found in the kitchen of apartment #105 in the Blue Creek (West) Apartments. You can only find it after beating the game once and starting a new game.
  • Book of Lost Memories can only be found after completing the game once and starting a new game. It is located on a newspaper stand next to the building near the pumps at the Texxon Gas Station. The camera will shift to focus on it when you get close.
  • Obsidian Goblet can only be found after completing the game at least once and start a new game. The Goblet is in one of the first rooms in the Silent Hill Historical Society, before you go down the long, long stairway that leads to the Prison. There is a shattered glass display case that will hold the Goblet.
  • Book of Crimson Ceremony can only be found after beating Silent Hill 2 at least once and starting a new game. It is found in the second floor Reading Room of the Other World version of the Lake View Hotel.

These items will be scattered throughout Silent Hill for you to obtain.

Second Best

Unlock the “Maria” ending.

There are several things required to get the Maria ending, most of which have to do with how attentive you are to Maria throughout the game.

WARNING: At no time during the game should you examine either the letter or photograph in your inventory. Doing so will make it impossible to achieve this ending!

While Maria is following you, do not lead her in the wrong direction. If at any point she says something like “Where are you going?” you might as well load your last save.

Do not allow her to take damage from enemies, and especially do not injure her yourself.

When she falls ill in the hospital, make sure you return to check on her several times. Though she’s not in the room in the “Other World” it’s a good idea to visit it and examine the empty pill bottles anyway.

Other things which may be a factor:

  • Don’t read the diary on the roof of the hospital.
  • Don’t listen to the audio recording in the hotel.
  • When in the final hallway before the final boss fight, don’t stick around to listen to the conversation. Instead, rush forward and through the door as quickly as possible.
  • Throughout the game, when you are injured do NOT heal yourself immediately. Instead, wait until you are severely injured before using any healing items.

She Would Be Proud

Unlock all trophies in SH2.

Unholy Grail

Acquire the Obsidian Goblet.

The Obsidian Goblet is one of four specific items you need to unlock the Rebirth ending.

In order to get it, you must complete the game at least once and start a new game. The Goblet is in one of the first rooms in the Silent Hill Historical Society, before you go down the long, long stairway that leads to the Prison. There is a shattered glass display case that will hold the Goblet.

Finding the Goblet will unlock the achievement / trophy Unholy Grail

Warp Speed

This can be a pretty tough achievement / trophy to accomplish. Doing the following will definitely help:

  • Set both difficulties to Easy
  • Run from as many monsters as possible
  • Up the bullet multiplier to x3
  • Skip all cut scenes (not sure if they count, but why risk it?)
  • Go for the UFO Ending since it will end the game a few minutes earlier without having to do much while in game.

We're Not Alone

Acquire the Blue Gem.

The Blue Gem is found near one of the stalls in the bathroom in which you begin the game. It is ONLY found after you have completed both the main scenario and the Born From A Wish scenario.

Using it at three specific locations throughout the game will unlock the UFO ending.

Where's that Letter!?

Defeat Flesh Lips.

Flesh Lips is a monster in Silent Hill 2. You’ll face it when you get locked in a room by Laura. This all takes place in the other world version of Brookhaven Hospital.

Try to stay away from Flesh Lips as much as possible. Two hits can easily kill you at full health. They attack by grabbing your head and pulling up upward. When this happens, press the investigate and run buttons as fast as you can to escape.

After killing the first two, a third will fall from the ceiling. Using a Shotgun or Handgun will be your best bet to defeat Flesh Lips.

Who Needs a Gun?

Acquire the Green Hyper Spray.

The Hyper Spray will be found in the motor home on Saul street after you have met one of the following conditions:

  • Beat the game once on Hard Difficulty.
  • Beat the game twice, at least once on Normal Difficulty
  • Beat the game three times on any Difficulty.

The color of hyperspray you unlock is dependent upon the star ranking you get after completing the game. To get the Green Hyper Spray, which kills virtually every enemy instantly, you must get a 10 star ranking. It will also unlock the Who Needs a Gun achievement / trophy.

10 Star Ranking

The 10 Star Ranking is the hardest thing to get on Silent Hill 2. After beating the game, you’ll see the results screen. There will be big stars and white stars at the bottom of the screen. Big stars count as 1 and little starts count as .1 If you get five big stars and three little stars, your rating is 5.3.

How to Obtain

To get the elusive ten stars, you’ll have to beat the game under the best settings. If you can meet the requirements of the achievements / trophies that are available, you may be able to get the ten star ranking.

  • Play on Hard Action Level
  • Play on Hard of Extra Riddle Difficulty
  • Only Save two times
  • Receive under 500 points of damage
  • Beat the boat stage in less than 1:30
  • Defeat 75 enemies by shooting AND melee
  • Collect over 150 items + extra items
  • Beat the game in under 3 hours
  • Have 4/4 endings
