Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver Walkthrough

[toc]

The Zephyr Badge

You start the game in the Johto region upstairs in your home.

New Bark Town

Winds of a New Beginning.

You start off upstairs in your room. Not much to do. You can look at the mail in your PC from Lyra your neighbor. After that go downstairs to talk to your mom and then to Prof. Elms lab to choose your new pokemon! You get three choices of pure type pokemon. The Fire Pokemon Cyndaquil, the Grass Pokemon Chikorita, and the Water Pokemon Totodile. All are great pokemon so choose whichever you like. When you choose your pokemon and attempt to leave you’ll receive 5 potions from the prof.’s aid. Leave the lab and go back home to show your mom. When you talk to her you’ll receive a Pokegear! Your mom is registered in there already. Head west to the next route and Prof. Elm will give you his number.

Route 29

Obtainable Pokemon
Pidgey (Daytime Only)
Rattata
Sentret (Daytime Only)
Hoothoot (At Night Only)

There will be tall grass all over and tons of wild pokemon. You can battle some to grow stronger but you can’t catch any yet, no pokeballs. Head west and then a bit north up the small hill. Once you go the northmost you can go then head east to find a potion. Next head West again. You should see a route house type thing. Just a little house between routes. At the other side it’ll lead to Route 46, well a dead end version of it. It’s a mountain path downward not upward. You may find Spearow and geodude. Back on Route 29 head west to get to the next town. At the end of the route you’ll see an Grn Apricorn tree….but you can’t use it right now. Onto Cherrygrove!

Every Tuesday you’ll find someone named Tuscany. She will give you a Pink Bow.

Cherrygrove City

The City of Fragran Flowers

Once you enter town a man will pull you around it to show you tutorial type stuff. After all that’s done you’re receive some running shoes! Now you can run around holding B instead of walking. There’s not much to do in Cherrygrove. Heal your pokemon at the pokemon center and if you want you can buy some items at the pokemart. You only have 3000 pokedollars to start out with.

Pokemart
Potion – P 300
Antidote – P 100
Parlyz Heal – P 200

Air Mail – P 50
Heal Ball – P 300

Head north to the next route and you’ll be stopped by the Guide Gent who gave you the running shoes. He’ll also give you a map card for the pokegear. Now you can see the basic layouts of the maps in game!

Route 30

Obtainable Pokemon
Caterpie (HG/Day)
Metapod (HG/Day)
Weedle (SS/Day)
Kakuna (SS/Day)
Pidgey (Day)
Rattata (Night)
Hoothoot (Night)
Ledyba (SS/Morning)
Spinarak (HG/Night)

Route 30 is a northward route that connects to route 31 and the dark cave. It is also the route that Mr. Pokemon lives on. The man you need to see for Prof. Elm’s errand. Head north and around the hill to find a potion. Just up ahead is another GRN Apricorn tree next to a house. Inside the house you’ll get an Apricorn Box to store your Apricorns in! GO back outside to get the apricorn and continue north. Around the house (northward) is an antidote. Keep going north and you’ll see a pokemon battle in the way on the left side. On the right side is the path towards Mr. Pokemon’s house. Next to the house is a Pnk Apricorn tree. Inside the house you’ll meet Mr. Pokemon and receive a Mystery Egg. Next to him is Prof. Oak who will give you a pokedex! He will also give you his number for your pokegear and your pokemon will have it’s HP restored. Now you have to head all the way back to Newbark town. Head south to Cherrygove and when you are leaving that town to reach Route 29 you’ll be challenged to a battle!

Passerby Boy
Depending on the pokemon you chose, he will have one of three pokemon. If you chose Cyndaquil he will have a Totodile. If you chose a Totodile he will have a Chikorita. If you chose a Chikorita he will have a Cyndaquil. It shouldn’t be too challenging if you’ve been battling wild pokemon to level up. Each Pokemon will give you 70 EXP and 500 pokedollars when you win. Remember he’ll only have one of the three.

Cyndaquil (Male) Lv 5

Continue on through Route 29 and to New Bark Town. Go into the Pokemon Lab to talk to Prof. Elm, the police, and Lyra about the kid you battled. You will get to name him (up to 7 characters) and further the story. Next go to your mother and tell her you’ll be challenging all the GYM leaders across Johto. She’ll give you the option to save 25% of your earned money or not. If you let her save money for you then you can come back and take the money she saved. Every now and then she’ll use some of that money to buy you useful items. To get the items you’ll have to go to a pokemart and find a man dressed in red. He will give you the items. Now go back to Route 29 and Lyra will teach you how to catch pokemon. After the brief tutorial she’ll give you 5 pokeballs so you can catch your own pokemon! Catch any pokemon you like and head back to Route 30 to continue your journey.

When you reach the fork in the road that was blocked on the left previously you will see it is now open. However, there are two trailers blocking your way that you’ll have to face:

Route 31 is pretty short. To the right/east is Dark Cave but it’s a dead end inside. To the Left/West is Violet City. You’ll first have to head east and come in front of Dark Cave. Next to the entrance is a potion. Inside the cave is another potion, if you can find it. The cave is extremely dark and needs the flash ability to see. You’ll also need the rock smash ability to continue on inside the cave. Exit the cave and head west. You’ll find a Blk Apricorn tree. Head down to fight another trainer:

Parlyz Heal – P 200

Tunnel Mail – P 50

Head to the pokemon center to heal your pokemon and you can find two hardly important people inside. One is a guy from a TV show where you can tell him what you think of him. Another guy lets you pick the kind of trainer you’d like to be out of a few choices. Exit the pokemon center and you can see a guy right in front of it who trades berries for shards. Find shards all around the world and give them to him for three berries:

Blue Shard = Oran, Chesto, Wiki
Green Shard = Rawst, Lum, Aguav
Red Shard = Cheri, Pecha, Leppa
Yellow Shard = Aspear, Sitrus, Iapapa

To the west of the pokemon center is a house with a man willing to trade a bellsprout for a hasty onix named Rocky with a Persim Berry. Traded pokemon in game will be the same level as the pokemon you give them. They grow a lot faster than regular pokemon. But if they grow too much they may disobey you without the right badge. To find a bellsprout go back to route 31 and find one. Onix may come in handy.

To the North of the Pokemon Center is a Pokemon School. You can talk to a man to the right inside to create a group for union rooms.

Before battling the GYM Leader you should head to Sprout Tower at the North of Violet City.

Sprout Tower

Obtainable Pokemon
Rattata
Gastly (Night)

On the base floor there are a few people to talk to but they have nothing important to say. Head to the second floor and you’ll encounter a trainer:

This guy is the first person who will actually give you any challenge. Growth doesn’t do anything since it puts up special attacks and Vine Whip is now a physical attack. Foresight allows Hoothoot to attack ghost pokemon and Hypnosis will put your pokemon to sleep.

It shouldn’t be too difficult if you’ve been battling and leveling up. When you defeat him you can use the escape rope to leave Sprout Tower or walk back and save or sell the escape rope. Now you should be ready for the Violet City GYM!

Violet City GYM

The Violet City GYM relies heavily on flying type pokemon. They are weak against electric, ice, and rock type moves. They are strong against grass, bug, and fighting type pokemon. You’ll have to face two trainers before getting to the GYM Leader, unless you go around them, but you won’t get some useful EXP to level up your pokemon for the upcoming GYM Battle

Spearow (Male) Lv9
