In pokemon, each pokemon has a special ability it knows from when you capture it. Some pokemon can only know one ability. Some pokemon can learn one of two abilities and is random on which it knows when you capture it. These abilities can help your pokemon in battle one way or another. Recently they added extra abilities to a few of the regular abilities, in which you can do special abilities outside of battle. I will list all of the abilities and their effects just in case you have a pokemon with an ability and you don’t know what it does.
Adds 50% more damage to a pokemon’s move if that move type is the same type as the pokemon using it. An example is eevee being a normal type and using tackle which is also a normal type move. With adaptability the move’s damage gets a 50% damage boost along with the STAB’s 50% damage boost.
If a pokemon defeats another pokemon by a physical attack and the pokemon they defeated has the Aftermath ability, then the pokemon that did the final blow looses 25% of it’s max HP.
Negates all weather effects in battle. For more on weather check the weather section in section V.
If a pokemon with the Anger Point ability gets hit with a critical hit, their attack power raises to the maximum it can reach.
If the enemy pokemon has a one hit knock out (OHKO) move or a move that will be super effective against your pokemon that has Anticipation, then your pokemon will warn you.
If your pokemon has arena trap then the enemy pokemon cannot escape battle (if wild) or switch out to another pokemon (if a trainer’s pokemon) unless they are a flying type, they have the levitate ability, or they know the move baton pass. Arena Trap has a special outside battle ability. If a pokemon with Arena Trap is at the lead in your party then you have a 200% higher chance in encountering wild pokemon.
If your pokemon has the bad dreams ability and the enemy pokemon is asleep, then the enemy pokemon loses health each turn just like the nightmare move.
If your pokemon has battle armor it cannot be hit by critical hits.
When your pokemon, that knows blaze, has their HP below 1/3 of it’s total HP then it ups fire attacks power by 50%.
When the weather is shining bright in battle due to a move or ability, then the pokemon with chlorophyll’s speed will raise by 100%. However, the speed will not raise during the turn the weather is changed.
A pokemon with the clear body ability can not have their stats lowered by an enemy pokemon. However, they can lower or raise their own stats and enemies can raise your stats.
Negates all weather effects in battle. For more on weather check the weather section in section V.
A pokemon with color change will have it’s type changed by the type of move it was hit by last. An example is a pokemon being hit by a fire type move with color change ability will become a fire type pokemon until it’s hit with a diffent type move.
Raises the pokemon’s accuracy by 30% in battle. Outside of battle, if the pokemon that has compound eyes is in the lead position of your party, you will have a higher chance of encounterting a wild pokemon holding an item.
If an enemy pokemon is of an opposite gender and attacks you with a physical attack it will have a 30% chance of becoming attracted to your pokemon with Cute Charm. Outside of battle if a pokemon with cute charm is in the lead position of your party you will have a 2/3rds (66.6%) chance of encountering a pokemon with the opposite gender of the pokemon that has cute charm. However, this does not effect swarming Pokemon.
If a pokemon has the damp ability, the other pokemon will not be able to use self destruct and explosion moves.
A pokemon that has the download ability will have it’s attack or special attack stat raised one level depending on the lower defense stat of the enemy pokemon. If the enemy pokemon has a higher special defense stat as opposed to it’s defense stat then your pokemon’s attack stat will raise. If both are equal then the special attack stat will raise.
Weather on the battlefield changes to rain.
Weather on the battlefield changes to sunshine.
If the weather on the battlefield is rainy and a pokemon has dry skin then the pokemon’s HP will raise by 12.5% of it’s max HP each turn. If the weather on the battlefield is sunny and a pokemon has dry skin then the pokemon’s HP will lower by 12.5% of it’s max HP each turn. In addition to all this fire type attacks will do 25% more damage to your pokemon and water type attacks will restore your pokemon’s health by 25%.
A pokemon with early bird wakes up in half the time it normally would when afflicted with the sleep status effect.
If a pokemon physically attacks another pokemon with effect spore then there will be a 10% chance that pokemon will be inflicted with paralysis, poison, or sleep.
If a pokemon does a critical hit to a pokemon with the filter ability, the attack power is halved.
If a pokemon physically attacks another pokemon with flame body then there will be a 30% chance that pokemon will be burned. Outside of battle if you have an egg in your party and a pokemon with flame body then it takes half the amount of steps for the egg to hatch.
If a pokemon has the flash fire ability and is attacked by a fire type move then the flash fire ability becomes “active.” Once active all fire type moves from the pokemon with the flash fire ability will do an extra 50% damage and the pokemon will be immune to fire type moves.
Raises the Special Defense and Attack stats by 50% when sunlight is on the battlefield.
The pokemon’s type changes with the weather on the battlefield. Fire-Type for sunlight, Water-type for rain, ice-type for hail, normal for all others.
Shows the enemies strongest move. If the enemy has two or more moves with the same power or two enemies (double battle) have the same power moves, then one will be chosen at random.
Allows you to see your enemies hold item.
A HP Restoring berry the pokemon is holding is eaten earlier than normal.
Attack power rises 50% if a pokemon has a status effect of paralyze, poison, sleep, freeze, or burn. If a pokemon has guts and burn it will still lose attack power from burn and give a 50% boost.
Damage from fire-type moves and burn status effect damage is cut by 50%.
Your pokemon may pick up “honey” item after the battle. The higher your level the higher the chance. Honey attracts wild pokemon when put on gold colored trees.
Raises the Attack stat by 100%. However, if the ability is taken with skill swap then the attack stat is only raised by 50%.
Raises the Attack stat by 50% but lowers your accuracy by 20%. Outside of battle, if a pokemon with hustle is in the lead of your party, you have 50% less of a chance of encountering higher leveled pokemon.
When rain is on the battlefield all status effects are taken away on the pokemon with hydration.
With hyper cutter your pokemon’s attack stat cannot be lowered. However, you can lower your own stat. Outside of battle you can cut larger sections of grass with the cut HM.
When hail is on the battlefield your pokemon’s HP will recover 6.25% of max HP every turn.
If a pokemon with illuminate is in the lead spot of your party, your chance of encountering wild pokemon is increased by 200%
A pokemon with immunity cannot be poisoned.
A pokemon with inner focus cannot flinch from moves that usually make you flinch. Does not count with focus punch flinching.
A pokemon with insomnia cannot fall asleep.
A pokemon with intimidate will lower his enemies attack stat one level when entering battle. If it’s a double battle then it will lower both enemies attack stats. If a pokemon with intimidate is in the lead of your part, chances of encountering a lower level wild pokemon decreases by 50%.
Iron Fists increases power of punching attacks by 20%.
Enemy pokemon cannot lower your pokemon’s accuracy. If a pokemon with intimidate is in the lead of your part, chances of encountering a lower level wild pokemon decreases by 50%.
Pokemon with Klutz cannot use hold items.
If there is sun on the battlefield any status effect will be healed.
Ground-type attacks have no effect.
Electric-type attacks are drawn to pokemon with lightning rod. Only effective in double battles. Outside of battle if a pokemon with lightning rod is in the lead position then you will get more calls.
Pokemon with limber cannot be paralyzed.
If an enemy tries to absorb HP from a pokemon with liquid ooze, they will lose the amount of damage they should have absorbed.

Pokemon cannot be frozen with magma armor. If a pokemon has magma armor outside of battle it will cut down egg hatch time in half.
Steel type pokemon cannot switch out of battle unless they have baton pass. Outside of battle, if a pokemon with magnet pull is in the lead, you will encounter steel pokemon by 150% more.
When given a status effect (burn, poison, freeze, sleep, paralyze) your defense will raise by 50%.
When battling with a pokemon that has the plus ability (in double battles) your special attack will raise by 50%.
Pokemon with mold breaker do not get affected by other pokemon’s abilities.
When hit with an electric attack the pokemon’s speed raises one level.
Depending on the plate the pokemon holds, it’s type will change.
The pokemon’s status is healed when switched out from battle.
All attacks while in battle have 100% accuracy for all pokemon. Outside of battle, if the pokemon is in the lead position, you will encounter pokemon more by 50%.
All moves/attacks the pokemon knows will be of the normal-type.
The pokemon cannot become attracted to any other pokemon.
When HP is below 1/3 (33.3%) grass type moves receive a 50% damage boost.
Pokemon with own tempo cannot become confused.
Has a 10% chance the pokemon will find and hold an item after battle unless it is already holding an item. The higher the level the rarer the item. Items vary depending on pokemon game.
When battling with a pokemon with the minus ability (double battles) the pokemon’s special attack will increase by 50%.
HP increases by 12.5% when inflicted with poison instead of losing HP.
If an enemy pokemon does a physical attack on a pokemon with poison point, they have a 30% chance of becoming poisoned.
If you attack a pokemon that has pressure, that move you used will use up 2 PP instead of 1 PP each time you use it. Outside of battle, if a pokemon with pressure is leading your party, you’ll encounter higher level pokemon 50% less.
Pokemon with pure power have their attack raised by 100%.
If a pokemon with quick feet has a status effect, it’s speed will increase by 50%. Outside of battle, if a pokemon with quick feet is leading your party, you’ll encounter wild pokemon 50% less.
The power of moves with recoil (such as double edge) will do 100% more damage, but there will also be 100% more recoil.
If a pokemon with rivalry is facing a pokemon of the same gender, their attack stat will raise 50%. However, if they face a pokemon of the opposite gender, their attack stat will lower 50%.
If rain is on the battlefield, a pokemon with rain dish will recover 6.25% of their max HP every turn.
Pokemon with rock head do not receive recoil damage from attacks that normally cause recoil damage (i.e. Double Edge).
If a pokemon physically attacks another pokemon with rough skin, the first pokemon will receive 6.25% damage of the damage they caused to the pokemon with rough skin.
Will always run away from non trainer pokemon unless they used trapping moves/abilities/items such as mean look and arena trap.
Pokemon with sand stream will cause a sand storm every time they enter battle.
If a sandstorm is on the battlefield, a pokemon with sand veil will have an evasion increase of 25%. It also negates all damage from a sandstorm on that pokemon. Outside of battle if a pokemon with sand veil is leading the party in a sandstorm, you’ll encounter wild pokemon less by 50%.
Pokemon with the scrappy ability can hit ghost pokemon with normal and fighting type moves.
Doubles the chance of attacks/moves doing extra effects. An example is thunderbolt paralyzing an enemy.
Pokemon coming up against other pokemon with shadow tag may not run or switch out from battle unless they have baton pass.
If a pokemon is inflicted with a status effect, every turn they will have a 33% chance to “shed skin” and remove the status.
Pokemon with shell armor cannot receive critical hits from other pokemon.
Pokemon with shield dust cannot receive addition effects from moves. An example is paralyze from thunderbolt.
Pokemon with simple get double the effectiveness of critical hits and stat moves. Critical hits do 2x damage, with simple it does 4x. Examples of stat moves are defense curl which raises your defense by 25%, with simple it’ll raise 50%. The same goes for stat differences on enemy pokemon like using leer on an enemy to lower their defense. However, the stats are still capped at 150% max.
Skill link allows your pokemon to hit the maximum number of times (5) in chain moves. An example is icicle spear or clamp
Pokemon with slow start have half their attack and speed stats for the first five turns.
Adds an additional 50% damage to critical hit’s base power. If a move does 50 damage and gets a critical hit it will do 100 damage. If you have sniper the base damage becomes 75 and the critical hit will do 150 damage.
A pokemon with snow cloak will have an increase of 20% to evasion when there’s hail on the battlefield. In addition, pokemon with snow cloak will be immune to the damage hail does.
When a pokemon comes into battle with snow warning ability a snow storm comes on the battlefield.
When there is sun on the battlefield and a pokemon has solar power their special attack is raised 50% and lowers their HP by 12.5% of their max HP each turn.
Solid Rock reduces super effective moves by 25%.
A pokemon with soundproof becomes immune to all sound moves. Sound moves include:
Every turn the pokemon is in battle their speed raises by 25% up to the max of 150%. Does not include the turn the pokemon gets switched into battle.
If a pokemon physically attacks another pokemon with static, the first pokemon has a 30% chance of getting paralyzed. Outside of battle, if you have a pokemon with static at the lead of your party you have a 150% higher chance of running into an wild electric pokemon.
Pokemon with stall always move slower than the other pokemon.
If a pokemon with steadfast is hit with a move that makes him flinch, then his speed will increase 50%.
If a pokemon with stench is leading your party you’ll encounter pokemon 50% less.
If your pokemon is holding an item it cannot be taken or knocked off by an enemy pokemon. Outside of battle if you’re fishing and a pokemon has the sticky hold ability at the lead of your party, you will get more bites/encounter more pokemon.
All water type moves are drawn towards the pokemon with storm drain. So only effective in double battles.
Pokemon with sturdy will never die from one hit knock out (OHKO) moves.
Pokemon with suction cups cannot be switched out from battle when moves like roar and whirlwind are used. Outside of battle if you’re fishing and a pokemon has suction cups at the lead of your party, you will get more bites/encounter more pokemon.
Pokemon with super luck give critical hits twice as much as pokemon without super luck.
When HP is below 1/3 (33%) the pokemon’s bug-type attacks will do an extra 50% damage. Outside of battle, if a pokemon with swarm is leading your party, you will encounter wild pokemon more and hear their cries more.
When rain is on the battlefield a pokemon with swift swim will have an increase to their speed stat by 100%
When a pokemon gives a status effect to a pokemon with synchronize, the first pokemon will gain the same status effect they just gave. However, some pokemon types and abilities will prevent the pokemon from getting a status effect. An example is a steel pokemon causing poison will not become poisoned. Sleep and Frozen will not synchronize.
When your pokemon has tangled feet and becomes confused their evasion is raised by 20%.
Increases the base power an additional 50% if the moves have 60 Base power or less.
Fire and Ice type moves do 50% less damage.
Doubles the power of moves that are usually “Not Very Effective.” Basically makes them do normal damage. If the move is double not very effective to both types of a pokemon then it does half damage instead of a fourth, still being the power of a not very effective move.
When the pokemon’s HP is less than 1/3 (33%), the ability raises water type attacks by 50%
Trace copies your enemies ability with the exception of multitype. If it’s a double battle it will randomly choose one.
Every other turn your pokemon will not attack.
Stats are ignored on the enemy with the exception of speed. An example is if your enemy uses defense curl to raise it’s defense and a pokemon with unaware does a physical attack. The attack will do the same damage as if the enemy pokemon never used defense curl.
If a pokemon with unburden has a hold item and it loses it somehow their speed will increase by 100%.
Pokemon with vital spirit will not fall asleep. Same as insomnia. Outside of battle, if a pokemon with vital spirit is leading your party, the chance of encountering high level pokemon is decreases by 50%.
If a pokemon with volt absorb is hit with an electric type damaging move their HP will increase by 25% of their max HP.
If a pokemon with water absorb is hit with a water type damaging move their HP will increase by 25% of their max HP.
Pokemon with water veil cannot suffer the burn status effect.
Enemy pokemon cannot lower the pokemon with white smoke stats. However, the pokemon with white smoke can lower their own stats. Outside of battle, if a pokemon with white smoke is leading your party, the chance of encountering wild pokemon decreases 50%.
Pokemon with wonder guard are only hurt by super effective moves, weather damage, and status effects. “Moves which cause status ailments, such as PoisonPowder, can still be used. In addition, the Pok�mon can still be afflicted with status ailments and receive damage from those status ailments.
