Ranks
In Halo 3 there are two ranks. There’s the true skill ranks and the playlist ranks. As you play and win games you earn 1 experience point. If you lose a match you don’t lose any experience points. However, if you quit out of a match then you will lose 1 experience point. This only applies to ranked matches not social matches. With true skill you need skill points AND experience points in order to rank up to the higher ranks. To gain the skill points you need to win matches. It doesn’t seem to matter how good you perform, but if you beat players of higher ranks then you will rank up faster. If you lose to people of the same or lower rank then you will lose skill points. You can get a max of 50 skill points and an infinite amount of EXP.The following image shows the skill points and experience points you need to rank up:
There is now a playlist experience system that keeps track of the EXP you earned in all game modes including social matches. You will only rank up in that particular playlist. An example is being a captain in social slayer but a lieutenant in lone wolves. You don’t need skill points to rank up so the ranks are laid out like so:
Medals
While playing matches you may see medals pop up here and there. At the end of the match you can see a rundown of all the medals you won. These medals are saved on your record and can be seen at bungie’s website anytime. They are earned through a variety of things. Not all medals show up after the match, but they will all show up at bungie’s website. Here is an image of all medals in Halo 3. The names and how to get them are under them from top to bottom THEN left to right on the image:
Streaktacular: Win an online slayer game by at least 20 kills
Linktacular!: Play an online game where every player is registered at Bungie.net
Death from the Grave!: Kill an enemy after you died.
Laser Kill!: Kill an enemy with the Spartan Laser
Grenade Stick!: Kill an enemy by sticking them with a Plasma Grenade or a Spike Grenade
Incineration!: Kill an enemy with a flamethrower or firebomb
Killjoy!: End an enemy’s killing spree
Assassin!: Kill an enemy from behind with a one shot kill melee attack
Beat Down!: Kill an enemy with a melee attack
Extermination!: Wipe out an entire enemy team with at least an overkill
Bulltrue!: Kill an enemy who’s lunging at you with an Energy SwordKilling Spree!: Kill 5 enemies in one life
Killing Frenzy!: Kill 10 enemies in one life
Running Riot!: Kill 15 enemies in one life
Rampage!: Kill 20 enemies in one life
Untouchable!: Kill 25 enemies in one life

Splatter!: Kill an enemy by running them over with a vehicle
Splatter Spree!: Kill 5 enemies in one life by running them over with a vehicle
Vehicular Manslaughter!: Kill 10 enemies in one life by running them over with a vehicle
Wheelman!: Be the driver of a vehicle when your passenger kills an enemy
Hijacker!: Hijack a vehicle with an enemy driving it
Skyjacker!: Hijack a flying vehicle with an enemy driving it
Killed Vehicle!: Destroy an vehicle with an enemy in it
Killed VIP!: Kill an enemy VIP
Bomb Planted!: Plant a bomb in an assault game mode
Killed Bomb Carrier!: Kill an enemy holding the bomb
Flag Score!: Capture an enemy flag.
Killed Flag Carrier!: Kill an enemy holding a flag
Flag Kill!: Kill an enemy with a melee while holding a flag
Hail to the King!: Kill 5 enemies in one life while inside one hill in King of the Hill.
Oddball Kill!: Kill an enemy with a melee while holding the ball in oddball.
Perfection!: Win a slayer match with 15 or more kills and 0 deaths
Killed Juggernaut!: Kill the juggernaut
Juggernaut Spree!: Kill 5 enemies in one life while a juggernaut.
Unstoppable!: Kill 10 enemies in one life while a juggernaut.
Last Man Standing!: In an Infection match, be the last uninfected player in the game.
Infection Spree!: Infect 5 people in one life as a zombie in an Infection match.
Mmmm Brains!: Infect 10 people in one life as a zombie in an Infection match.
Zombie Killing Spree!: Kill 5 zombies in one life
Hell’s Janitor!: Kill 10 zombies in one life.
