Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire E3 Info and Release Date

More information for Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire was released at E3 2014, including the release date. And I have some stuff to say about this new info.

As my YouTube subscribers know, I’ve decided to do some Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire coverage and will be posting video updates as often as possible. When I get the games, I may upload some gameplay footage as well. So, I figured I’d cross post these videos on my blog and write the information with the video in a post.

During Nintendo’s E3 Digital Press Conference, a new Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire trailer was featured. In the following days, two new short trailers were uploaded on the official Pokemon YouTube Channel.

The trailer at E3 showed a little bit of gameplay using the 3D Pokemon X and Y engine. The sub text in the trailer specifically said the majority of the game is in 2D, but there are 3D capabilities, just like X and Y. They also announced what I had predicted long ago, a Mega Sceptile and Mega Swampert to round out the three starters. Remember, Mega Blaziken was already available in Pokemon X and Y.

Some people already knew a lot of this information from a Japanese magazine called CoroCoro. The information was translated and posted on serebii.net about a week earlier. Mega Sceptile will be Grass/Dragon-type with the Lightning Rod ability, and Mega Swampert will be Water/Ground-type with the Swift Swim ability.

Kyogre and Groudon seem to have new Mega Evolutions too. They’re called “Primal Forms” in the trailer, but they look like they Mega Evolve while in battle. Lots of people suspected they were Mega Evolutions because they had those glowing glyphs on their bodies, but they had those same glyps in the original Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. I assume if Kyogre and Groudon have Mega Evolutions then Rayquaza will have one too. Rayquaza is supposed to calm the two after they fight it out.

Steven Stone also showed up in the trailer. He’s the son of the owner of the Devon Corporation. I believe he was the Pokemon League Champion in Ruby and Sapphire, but was replaced in Emerald. He had Rock and Steel type Pokemon, but I had read on Serebii that he will have a Mega Charizard, which doesn’t seem to follow the type pattern of his other Pokemon, nor does it follow his name!

The E3 trailer also showed Team Aqua and Magma with their leaders, Archie and Maxie (mistakenly said Maxwell in the video).

The following day, the official Pokemon YouTube channel released a video showing off Mega Diancie. Diancie is an upcoming Fairy/Steel-type Pokemon that will most likely be given out over wi-fi. No date has been set at this time for the release of this Pokemon.

The day after the Mega Diancie video was released, another video was uploaded on Pokemon’s YouTube channel that showcased Mega Sableye. GameFreak….. y u do dis? Sableye is a Ghost/Dark-type Pokemon that has no evolutions what so ever. It is a sucky Pokemon that nobody ever used. It was the first Ghost/Dark-type Pokemon created, which made it neutral or immune to all other elements, unless a Pokemon with a fighting-type move used Foresight or Identify that allowed it to hit Ghost-type Pokemon. There was also the Scrappy ability that came in later that allowed Pokemon to use Normal- and Fighting-type moves on Ghost-type Pokemon. Now the Fairy-type is available and super effective against Dark-types. I would have really preferred if they gave him a real Evolution instead of a Mega Evolution. I personally hate Mega Evolutions.

One more bit of speculation from me: one of your rivals, Wally, uses Ralts as a starter Pokemon. In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, it evolved up to a Gardevoir, and now we have Mega Gardevoir available. I’m predicting they will give him Mega Gardevoir (safe bet, I know), or they may take a huge turn and give him a Gallade since that evolution of Ralts wasn’t available until Generation 4. Who knows, maybe they’ll give him Gallade and make a Mega Gallade!

And last, but not least, the release date was announced! Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be releasing worldwide on November 21st, 2014.
