After five years, my journey comes to an end.

I was contacted by my boss yesterday afternoon regarding my contract with IGN. For those who aren’t aware, I’ve been a freelance strategy guide writer there for the past five years. I work from home as an independent contractor / freelancer, so I’m technically not an employee. The contract details are weird, and I’ve had some conversations in the past over whether or not I’m technically an employee at IGN. But let’s get back on topic.

My bossĀ told me my contract was to be terminated because of a discussion I participated in six months ago that he was recently made aware of. After a few emails back and forth, I got more information as to what he was talking about. He even seemed to get some details wrong. Basically, I didn’t say anything negative, but because I participated in a conversation where others were talking about another IGN employee’s appearance, that was apparently grounds for immediate termination. No warning, no discussion. Seems weird sinceĀ I’ve had no prior history of misdeeds over the past five years. I first became a freelancer in February of 2011, but I didn’t get my first job until April.

This whole thing seemed a bit ridiculous, but it doesn’t really matter. As I said in a blog about a year ago, I was planning on leaving IGN. I’ve been in the process of shifting fields, so my work at IGN has slowed down considerably. I just wish I didn’t have to leave on such bad terms. My final guide will be Battleborn, which I have been working on the past few weeks in beta form.

I still plan on playing games and writing some strategy guides in my free time for my Gaming YouTube channel and my website. Pokemon Sun and Moon are definitely on my radar, and will be the first Pokemon game I cover outside of IGN since Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I do wonder if they’ll be using the content I wrote on the past three Pokemon guides for Sun and Moon. They do seem pretty lost when it comes to Pokemon, and I had to keep correcting them since Pokemon changes so much from game to game. Keep an eye on my gaming channel for that! I’ll try to do Pokemon Go stuff, as well.

I won’t go into further detail, and I won’t be talking about this all over social media. I’m not a child. I’m only writing this here because it’s my personal blog / website, and I like to keep readers updated with my life’s journey.
