Pokemon Sun and Moon Walkthrough

Beginning Your Adventure

Pokemon Sun and Moon will begin with a short video message from Professor Kukui. He will tell you about the new Alola region. Choose your trainer’s gender, skin tone, hair tone, and name. When you gain control of your character, head down stairs to talk with your mother. Walk towards the door to invite Professor Kukui in.

Return to your room and examine the boxes by your bed to receive your hat and backpack. You can read the adventure rules on the desk, but they’re beginner things like open the menu with the X Button. Exit the house and follow Kakui northwest to Route 1.

Follow the path until you reach Kakui again. He’ll tell you a bit more about Alola and Pokemon training in general. Eventually, the two of you will reach Iki Town.

Your objective in Iki Town is to find the island Kahuna. You can talk to a number of people in this area, but you won’t receive anything or find the Kahuna. Head north to The Ruins of Conflict to continue the story.

Mahalo Trail is the route between Iki Town and The Ruins of Conflict. Ascend the mountain path until a cut scene plays out. It’ll be your job to go onto the bridge to save the Pokemon!

The mysterious Trainer and Pokemon will give you the Sparkling Stone for your help. She will then ask you to escort her back to town. DO NOT WALK TOWARDS HER. First, save your game. Then walk towards her to immediately go back to Iki Town.

The story will continue on naturally. You will learn the name of the Trainer is Lillie, and she is Professor Kukui’s assistant. You will also meet the island kahuna, Hala. He will allow you to choose your very first Pokemon. This is why it’s important to save before reaching this part. After choosing your Pokemon, check its stats and nature. You can always soft reset the game (L+R+START) if you want to try for a better nature and/or set of stats.

Professor Kukui will give you a Pokedex and Trainer Passport as well. Walk a short distance south to meet your rival for this game, Pokemon Trainer Hau.

Pokemon Trainer Hau

Hau is the grandson of kahuna Hala. His Pokemon will depend entirely on the Pokemon you chose. His Pokemon is also one of the three starter Pokemon, but it will be at a type disadvantage to your starter Pokemon. If you chose Rowlet, he will have Popplio; I\if you chose Litten, he will have Rowlet; and if you chose Popplio, he will have Litten. All you need to do is use your elemental move to defeat him with little effort. You will earn P100 for winning.

After the first two patches of grass on Route 1 is an item in the shape of a Poke Ball. All items will look like Poke Balls, but they are actually different things. This one is a Potion. A short distance ahead is the very first Trainer of the route.

This Pokemon won’t be difficult at all, even with beginner Pokemon. Just attack until it faints. Win the battle to receive P72.

Walk through the patch of tall grass to the north to find a Poke Ball near a tree. Continue up the route to the west. You should spot an item on the cliff overlooking the area you just came from. Walk around the wooden fence to find an Antidote.

To the northwest is another patch of tall grass. To the north of this tall grass is a Potion. A few steps west is one final Trainer of the route.

This Trainer is tougher than the last two because the Pokemon is at a higher level, but it’s still a really easy fight. Defeat him to earn P48. Walk through the last patch of tall grass to the northwest to find a Paralyze Heal in the corner. Pick it up and head up the stairs to Iki Town.

Iki Town

When you first step into Iki Town, the kahuna will tell you a festival is happening tonight. Go to the north side of town to find Hau and continue the story. The kahuna will heal your Pokemon, and you will begin another Pokemon battle with Trainer Hau.

Pichu will pose a bit of a threat to your team if you captured a Pikipek, or if Rowlet or Popplio was the first Pokemon you chose. Use Yungoos or a Caterpie (hopefully not Butterfree yet) to deal some damage. As for Hau’s starter, you can use your starter against his again to quickly take it out with an elemental attack. Defeat Hau to earn P140.

The kahuna will return your Shiny Rock and give you a new Z-Ring. Find Z-Crystals on your adventure to use Z-Moves. The kahuna will also mention the island challenge. You will return home after the conversation.
