Natures are part of what makes each Pokemon unique from each other. They are randomly applied to each Pokemon upon encountering them. Each of the 25 natures, with the exception of five, will increase one base stat by 10% while decreasing another base stat by 10%. While viewing a Pokemon’s summary of stats, the base stat in red is the boosted stat, while the stat in blue is the reduced stat.
Many trainers take advantage of natures to increase a stat a Pokemon excels in while reducing another stat they will never use. A perfect example is Alakazam with a Modest or Timid Nature. Alakazam excels in special attack and speed, but they don’t need the attack stat at all.
Since natures are randomly applied, capture a large number of the same Pokemon to get the right nature. Place a Pokemon with the synchronize ability in the lead of your party to increase your chance of encountering a Pokemon with the same nature (as the Pokemon with the synchronize ability) in the wild by 50%.
The table below lists each of the 25 Natures with the base stats they increase and decrease. The flavors only matter when using very specific berries.
|Nature||+10%||-10%||Favorite Flavor||Hated Flavor|
|Rash||Special Attack||Special Defense||Dry||Bitter|
|Careful||Special Defense||Special Attack||Bitter||Dry|
