HD Re-Releases Coming Soon

HD Re-Releases are all the rage now, and I’m excited for a few.

HD Remakes have been popping up here and there for some time now. I think the most popular one was God of War I and II (God of War Collection). Then there’s been talk about a Metal Gear collection and Shadow of the Colossus/Ico, but those just seem slightly interesting to me.

What really caught my attention were games I’ve already played. I know, I know, I should probably play new games instead of the same old games. But, some of these games were the best games I’ve ever played! With new technology coming out, I was unable to play my awesome older games. I must have gone through several Playstation 2s before switching to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. It was a real bummer when they stopped releasing PS2 compatible PS3s. I still have the PS2 discs right here with me.

Anyways, a few are coming out soon which have really caught my eye:

  • Resident Evil Code Veronica X
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Silent Hill Collection (Silent Hill 2 and 3)
  • Final Fantasy X

That list is probably in perfect order from what I’m least excited about to what I’m most excited about. Yes, these will only be HD Re-releases, not actual remakes. The graphics will be updates and achievement / trophies will be added to the game, but that’s about it. All the games will be available on both Xbox 360 and PS3.

Resident Evil Code Veronica X and Resident Evil 4 will be released via the Xbox Live Marketplace and Playstation Store. Resident Evil 4 is set to release in just a few days, September 20. RE: CVX will be released one week after on September 27th.

The Silent Hill Collection should be great. I wish they would have set the release close to Halloween to get in the spooky spirit. Halloween is my absolute favorite time of the year, and Silent Hill 2 and 3 are my absolute favorite survival horror games. You can buy Silent Hill 1 (a PS1 release) at the Playstation Store, but the graphics are pretty bad. Silent Hill 4 sucked and Silent Hill Homecoming was….unusual. The Silent Hill Collection will release December 31, 2011.

Last, but definitely not least, is Final Fantasy X. Square Enix broke the news of the HD Re-release of FFX at the Tokyo Game Show yesterday. Feelings have been mixed across the internet. Yes, people would like a remake of VI-IX, but they would require a massive amount of time for each game. This is just an upscaled re-release, just in time for the tenth anniversary. It’s not like Square Enix have been sitting on their ass all this time. They did create Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2 (which is almost complete), and are working on another FF-MMORPG for Final Fantasy XIV. It’s weird because I was just thinking about FFX the other day. I was even looking at PS2s so I could play my old PS2 games. I should also note FFX was the only FF game to have a direct sequel with FFX-2. Now FFXIII will be the second.

I’d also like to give a slight nod at Halo: Combat Evolved’s remake. That looks like it will be interesting. Unlike the last games I mentioned, it’s an actual remake instead of a re-release and it’s only available on the Xbox 360. You can actually switch back and forth between the updated graphics and the older graphics. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is set to release on November 15, 2011.

So many great old games, but so many great new games will be released soon as well!
